To simplify your approach to putting you first need to do a simple check with regards your putting mechanics. This starts with checking your golf swing setup with regards to your putting. Start with your stance  then look at your grip and how your hands are aligned towards the target. Your stance should be almost square with the back of your heels pointing towards the intended target. Remember the intended target is not always the hole. The target could be left or right of the hole depending which way the green breaks. Next make sure your grip is correct. The back of your left hand (if you are putting from the right side) should be facing the target with palm of your right hand doing the same. When you make your back swing control the movement with both hands with the lead hand going back (in this case the right hand) leading the way. During the follow through both hands should be in control with left hand leading the way. The back of the lead hand (in this case the left hand) should be square to the intended target when the putter makes impact with the ball. Stay loose when making your putt as tensing up will cause you to push or pull or shot.

Before trying this on the golf course try this technique on the practice green first. Start with some long putts first. Then gradually make putts closer and closer to the hole. Always keep in mind you golf swing setup for each putt. Also think of hitting each putt pas the hole by a few feet. This is a good mind set to have because it can be rather frustrating having the correct line to hole but coming up short.
